Aftermath Of Aluu 4 Killings: UNIPORT Reopens

Authorities of the University
of Port Harcourt, Rivers State,
southsouth Nigeria, have
announced the re-opening
of the institution for
academic activities.
The institution was shut last
month in the wake of violent
protest over the murder of
four students by a mob in
Aluu community.
A statement signed by the
Deputy Registrar of the
University, Williams Wodi said
the decision to re-open the
school was reached after an
emergency meeting held by
the University Senate on
Wednesday.
The statement urged all
students to return to the
campus before weekend as
normal lectures would begin
on Monday, 12 November.
It assured that peace has
returned to the university’s
neighborhood especially
Omuokiri-Aluu where the
four male students of the
institution were lynched last
month.
The statement further said
that the Vice Chancellor of
Uniport, Professor Joseph
Ajienka has met with the
landlords in Aluu who have
guaranteed the safety of the
students and staff living in
the community.
