Shocking! Fatal Day as Four die in Oshodi-Apapa Expressway

HER grieving relations said the young woman’s name was Esther and that she had a little child at home.
That child will not know her mother’s tenderness and love ever again, as Esther was crushed to death yesterday at Iyana Isolo on the Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Lagos.
A young man was also killed in the same accident.
But, another young woman, a student of Lagos State Polytechnic, who
identified herself, simply as Funke, and an elderly woman were among those who escaped unhurt.
Tears flowed freely even in the mild rain as Police and traffic officials struggled to free Esther’s mangled body from under the truck and at last, were able to load it alongside that of the unidentified young man into the Pick-Up van.
Also yesterday, an angry crowd of youths set ablaze a Lagos State Traffic Management Authority (LASTMA) tow-truck following the gory death of a man split into two in another accident at the Jakande Bus Stop area of Oshodi-Apapa Expressway.
The incident, according to eyewitnesses, occurred when the LASTMA truck, which was towing a faulty- haulage truck, forced another truck carrying flat steel plates to swerve violently as a result of which the plates fell off.
Two people were killed by the falling steel-plates, one of them almost sliced into two.
The Iyana Isolo accident, according to eyewitnesses, was caused by a combination of factors: the rain, which made the road slippery, the commuter bus that stopped for passengers at the Iyana Isolo Bus Stop and the truck the brakes of which failed.
“ The brakes of the truck, which was heading to Mile Two, failed and it ran into the rear of the commercial bus that had stopped for passengers.
“There was a scramble and some passengers in the bus panicked and jumped out only to be crushed by the truck,” one eyewitness said.
